Who we are
This is the personal lyrics archive of Abul Hasan Lakhani at abulhasanlakhani.com.
What we collect
This site is static: it has no accounts and no login. We do not collect, store or share any personal data ourselves, apart from what you choose to send us through thecontact form — your name, email address and message, which are emailed to us and used only to reply. Anonymous usage statistics may be collected via Google Analytics, and advertising is served by Google AdSense — see the sections below.
Analytics
We may use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, approximate location, device type). We also record which parts of the site people use — links followed such as tags, reciters and categories, changes to the Urdu/Roman view or text size, presses of the video play button, and the words typed into the search box — including searches that found nothing, which is how we learn what to add. We also count whether the site was added to a home screen and whether a visit lost its internet connection, so we know if the offline reading is worth maintaining. If you press a reaction on a lyric (such as Salaam), we store only an anonymous per-lyric tally — no text, no name, nothing that identifies who pressed it. These are counted in aggregate to help decide what to add next; they are not tied to a name, an account or an identity, and we never combine them with anything you send us through the contact form. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors; the data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. This data is processed by Google underGoogle's privacy policy. You can opt out with theGoogle Analytics opt-out browser add-onor by blocking analytics scripts in your browser — the site works fully without them.
Advertising and cookies
This archive is free to read and is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense, which — like any ad network — may set cookies or read device identifiers to measure ads and limit how often you see the same one. We never see that data ourselves; it is processed by Google under Google's advertising policies.
Personalised ads are off unless you allow them. On your first visit a banner asks whether ad cookies are OK. Until you choose “Allow”, Google is told not to use ad storage, ad user data or ad personalisation — you still see ads, but generic ones. Your choice is kept in your own browser and can be changed at any time: (the banner will ask again). You can also review Google's own controls at My Ad Center.
No ads are ever placed inside the lyric text, and blocking ad scripts in your browser does not break the site — it works fully without them, including offline.
Supporting the archive
The support pagelinks to Stripe, which handles any payment on its own site underStripe's privacy policy. This site never sees your card details, and nothing about what you can read here changes whether you give or not. We count clicks on the support links in the same anonymous way as other links.
Local storage
Your reading preferences (Urdu/Roman view, text size, light or dark theme and any one-day adjustment you make to the Hijri date), the reciters you choose to follow, and whether you have closed the seasonal support note or the offline notice, or already seen the support page, are saved in your own browser's local storage and never leave your device. The site also caches pages on your device so it works offline.
Archived comments
Comments published on the previous version of this website are displayed as a read-only archive, showing the name each commenter chose at the time. If you would like an archived comment removed, please contact us.
Embedded content
Some posts embed YouTube videos. A still image is shown first; the YouTube player itself loads when you press play, or on its own shortly after the page has finished loading so that it is ready when you reach it. Either way it loads through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and nothing plays until you press play. On slow or metered connections, and offline, the player is not loaded at all until you ask for it. Once playing, YouTube's ownprivacy policyapplies. Featured images are served from our content delivery network.
